What young girl would not like to read about herself in the newspaper? I was in the sports section of El Telegrafo many times, and yet, when I returned to the States, no one knew I existed!
I am acutely aware of the pressures put on today's young athletes! Even though I was the primary person behind my desire to become a serious rider, in my teens, I felt as though I had missed out on a big part of my childhood!
Now that I am in my fifties, I think of this small person as my Granddaughter, somehow, and not me! Or, possibly she is my Great Grandmother, someone I am related to, and I find myself being very protective of her and her young ambitions!
And, as I pass into old age, I am forever hoping that I can maintain that calm acceptance and appreciation of the "now"!
